Here’s what actually happened for gun owners this week, and what’s on the clock:
The House and Senate are scheduled back Monday, September 28, at noon, through Wednesday, and the adjournment resolution says one of the few things they are allowed to take up is a bill the governor already vetoed, solely to vote on the override. Senate Bill 50, Freedom to Carry, is one of those bills. Although Speaker Hall has already said the override would not happen until at least after the election…
This General Assembly dies December 31, and anything left unfinished starts over in January.
DOJ’s under-21 handgun window is still open at the federal level, and the Fifth Circuit’s Elite Precision ruling punched a hole in interstate handgun sales, and the mandate has not issued, so neither one is a reason to treat the counter like the law already changed in North Carolina. The Texas suppressor appeal window closes October 5, and we are not on the list of states treating a plain Form 4473 can purchase as live.
